I’m considering beginning a lifestream category titled “Lifestreaming for Utopians”, wherein I will attempt to provide ‘tips on the act of lifestreaming’. This advice may include things about workflow, things to try posting, and above all, realtime examples of why lifestreaming is a positive and powerful way to improve your daily life. Lifestreaming gives you knowledge, community, and self-discipline. I think everyone should do it! I would love to convince you of the same.

What do you think? Would you want to read advice on ‘utopian lifestreaming’? Also, log in if you’d like to snag the layered PSD of the image above.

i think its a good idea. its like the things we don’t think about, because we do them on a regular basis, but they could be really helpful to others just starting out.

As a card-carrying Utopian and lifestreamer, I think it would be a great project. I think highlighting the community aspect will be especially helpful, because lifestreaming can seem very isolated at first.

P.S. Don’t let your browser autofill your name without checking it. For some reason the plugin Sxipper thought a search for Nick Cave meant I had changed my name.

Thanks both for the feedback. Apollo, I think you’re right about community. And I think there are two different levels. One is the community of friends & family who give you feedback, like on facebook or twitter. Then there is the community of lifestreamers themselves, which, now that I think about it, is much harder to find. Where do you go to talk to other lifestreamers?

I wish I knew where to talk to other lifestreamers. I interact with other people who happen to lifestream but not because they lifestream. I’m not entirely sure there is a defined lifestreaming community. It seems to me that it’s a bit like social networking. People don’t gravitate together just because they take part in social networking, but because social networking allows them to connect in a better way with people who have common interests. Maybe lifestreaming is the same.

    Apollo,
I wonder if a lifestreaming community would be useful somewhere. I see what you mean about it being like social networking, but perhaps in lifestreaming’s nascent stages a resource for people trying to ‘be lifestreamers’ would be useful. I’ll keep up the utopian posts but I’m wondering if some group lifestream on Posterous would be useful or a ning or whatever. Lifestreamblog.com is great for software and services but the theory and practice of lifestreaming is rarely addressed. I’m going to have to bring Todd Barnard up in this convo…

12 step program for life streamers!

“…Hi, my name’s Todd, and I am a life streamer. It’ll started back in the 80s…..”

    But seriously,

Excluding geeky developer resources like http://activitystrea.ms “no” there is no single source for people currently life streaming to assemble and “talk shop”, compare notes, etc. and “yes” one is probably needed.

A Drupal site is probably overkill – maybe just start a Google Wave, set it to ‘public’ for starters?

Wave is a good way to have a bunch of people assembly at one “place”, at a specified time and have a conversation.

    Hey Todd
Thanks for the feedback. A 12 step program is a neat idea, in a way. I’m currently torn between focusing on getting people to start lifestreaming or focusing on those who already do… And I’m pretty sure I need to do the latter.

A wave to start sounds good, though I am still unhappy with waving and it’s death choke effect on my processor. A group Posterous doesn’t sound collaborative enough… a wiki sounds ancient. Thanks again for stopping by.
